Grand Lake has deep roots supporting live theatre. In the olden days, before TV and recordings,
people came by horse and foot for many miles to attend dances. 10 cents a dance! We have seen
ticket stubs of that from the Pine Cone dance hall and Voltaire's Restaurant, located across from our office
where the parking area is now for Pancho & Lefty's. Also back then, you could attend movies in the community building.
This was long ago, when the snow depth went way up the telephone poles and every household had a piano playing member..
Visit our office for historic photos
and memorabilia from the olden days. Take a glimpse inside The Troupe's scrapbook.
In 1966, The Troupe began as a dream of Dave Thompson. Some financial aid came from
a benefit performance in La Grange , Illinois by Victor Borge (a piano-playing comedian).
For the summer of 2010, in addition to the usual hubbub of having a rotation of live theatre
performances (a show almost every night), youth workshops and special events, you will see
a large building taking form as you enter the center of town. Earlier this year, the same
builder completed the fabulous new recreation center at the Fraser and Winter Park end of our
beautiful valley. We hope you visit often these strong new presences in Grand County,
Colorado. They are a testament of our positive outlook for the next decade.
Ground-breaking ceremony was on April 10, 2010 for the biggest newest
construction project in Grand Lake.
