At 8367 feet (2551 meters), Grand Lake is one of the highest yacht anchorages in the world!
The Grand Lake Yacht Club was organized in 1901. Regattas are usually held during the first
week in August. Trophies include the Lipton Cup donated in 1912 by Sir Thomas J. Lipton,
and the Knight Cup donated by Harry Knight (one of the principal backers of Charles Lindbergh).
Sailing is also popular on Lake Granby. The best wind conditions are in June and July.
When August rolls around, the weather starts to get more fickle and sultry. The steady linear
flow of the air gives way to thermals and thunderstorms ...
