This is the view of Bowen Lake and 12,524' (3818 meter) Bowen Mountain
from the Wolverine Trail on Blue Ridge. Click on photo to visit the pristine valley
in the far distance along the base of Bowen Mountain. There is a trail through the
primordial forest. There are two main ways to reach Bowen Lake. One is by
starting from the National Park lands near the Baker/Bowen Gulch trailheads at
8900'. An easier and more interesting route is by first driving deep into the Arapaho
National Forest to the North Supply Creek trailhead at 10,500'. You start by turning west
off of Hwy. 34 and onto County Road 4 by Dillie Docks and the Storage Units near the
North end of Lake Granby. After 2.1 miles one crosses into the National Forest. A mile
later you reach a major fork and want to take the right northward route. You then have
about 8 scenic miles of easy driving to the trailhead on a well maintained dirt road.
A regular car can be driven. Keep to your far right on the many blind turns and drive slowly
to reduce dust and to be prepared for wildlife and careless recreational vehicle users!
Camping is allowed in this area. Avoid any side roads. Take the most direct route possible
and you'll soon be at well marked trailhead by North Supply Creek. A few hundred yards
up the trail you have the choice of taking the Wolverine Trail or the Never Summer Mountains
Trail. If you take the latter you'll eventually be on the Wolverine Trail but will save some
time and also pass along a number of beautiful meadows.
