We will walk through the green trough (in the lower middle) and continue
around the bend towards the right shoulder of Jhomolhari. It is much more
uphill than it seems from here. It is like walking in an MC Escher drawing;
the valley floor is rising to meet you and it looks like one is walking downhill.
To the left of the shaded trough is a valley floor that has been filled with
glaciers several times over through geological cycles. It now has gravel
and boulders strewn all about. Under layers of gravel there is ancient ice.
Click on photo to look back the way we came. Resting on the mountainside
is Karma, the caretaker and part owner of our horses. After studying to be a
Buddhist monk for about seven years and doing some of the ceremonial dances,
he felt called back to his home to take care of his extended family. Around our
Bhutanese companions, he would tell the most jokes.
