Chapter One: Introductory with the Basic Five
There are many spells that are essential for a young wizard (or any wizard for that matter) to know. In this compressed version of Standard Book of Spells (Grade 1), we will carefully go through the process of learning to know these essential spells. No one could ever call himself a wizard if he didn't know the Basic Five. The Basic Five are the five most important spells any entrepreneur mage will ever need to know. They consist of Wingardium Leviosa, Oculus Reparo, Lacarnum Inflamarae, Alohomora, and Lumus.
Every time you are in the dark is a good time to cast Lumus. Lumus projects a dim light from the tip of your wand. The light is bright enough for you to see, but is also dark enough for you not to be seen (very well). During the Dark Ages, mages who cast Lumus were often charged with stealing goods, if they stole after dark. If you were innocent, it was tough to prove because most of those convicted were really rogues.
Alohomora was first introduced to the wizarding world for locksmiths. Filser Yippit, dwarf alchemist, discovered a spell that could eaisily open any locked door, window, or locker. Once the Ministry of Magic got wind of this helpful new charm, all wizarding locksmiths lost their jobs. Some of the laid-off locksmiths revolted, but the wiser ones went off and got their jobs back as locksmiths working for muggles.
While wizard locksmiths were just fired, the wizarding world discovered the most useful spell known, Reparo. This spell was used by mechanics, plumbers, electricians, and eye doctors. When you use Reparo, you have to specify what you're casting it for. To repair glasses, the phrase would become Oculus Reparo. Plumbers will add a Piplin, and electricians would include Shoka. No matter how you use Reparo, you always note the item being repaired at the beginning.
When you hear Winguardium Leviosa, you automatically think it's the best charm to use to levitate. Well, you're correct. Winguardium Leviosa will help things change the level of height (going either up or down), by producing a thin aura that makes the item's weight dramatically decrease or increase. Winguardium Plus is a recently discovered, upgraded version of Winguardium Leviosa. It allows you to move your floating objects to the left or right.
Lacarnum Inflamarae is typically used by wizards out camping. It jets a smoldering fire out of the tip of your wand. Tending to these fires is quite difficult, but I'm sure it's easier than rubbing two sticks against each other. First discovered by Harold Hitchjum, Lacarnum Inflamarae was first taught to his boy scouts. He unfortunately started a giant forest fire, which burned down 36% of the Black Forest. By the end of the summer, the boys often bragged about their newly learned spell. The Ministry of Magic then punished Hitchjum by sentencing him to five years at Azkaban, for teaching an unknown spell to youngsters.

Chapter Two: Stunning Spells
Even though it seems there is just one charm that you can stun with, there are multiple kinds. We will cover Petrificus Totalus and Stuepify, the two most common spells used. True, there are others, but they're more advanced than just first year spells.
Petrificus Totalus causes the blood of the person stunned to freeze. This could explain why many people found with this spell cast on them look like a thin sheet of  ice was wrapped around their carcasses. Luckily for the stunned, the freezing locks the body in a complete stop, so it's like passing out; you don't know it happened until you're conscious again.
In 1814, Petrificus Totalus was considered as only a Dark Arts spell. Dark wizards were freezing muggle bodies, and then lighting them on fire! But once the outburst came to an end, Petrificus Totalus was once again legal. Since then, Petrificus Totalus was allowed to be taught to students at Wizarding schools once again.
Stuepify is most commonly used by officers of either police organizations or the Ministry of Magic.
