"Animat," Prof. Ready chants as you open books to page 104. Suddenly,
the candle lying on the front table began to twitch, and begin to move around.
"The candle is now 'alive;' okay it's actually a reproduction of what ghosts
can do to you. Unfortunately, Stupefy won't work because the object
isn't alive. The spell to use on animated objects is Sulum. Sulum
was first used on a rampaging golem. It locked its body in position, making
it immobile. This way, if a poltergeist ever haunts your antique collecting
aunt's house, you won't have to destroy her valuables in the process."
Professor Ready pointed at the candle on the front desk, still moving around.
"Animat was used to show how ghosts could animate and make things
move. Obviously, a candle isn't deadly. But vengeful spirits will often enchant
armor in castles, or heavy machinery at a construction site. Sulum
is still the best way to stop the attacking objects, but they may be quicker
than it takes the spell to sink in. Therefore, you'll need a protective coating
spell."
Zez bent over to pick up a small blue lizard, "Watch as I cast the protection
spell on the lizard. Convir!" As he finished saying the spell, a brilliantly
colorful aura shot of his staff's tip, and surrounded the lizard. The lights
kept circling the reptile, expanding sometimes, and shrinking others. "This
spell, Convir, produces an aura of light around the opposing subject.
This shield protects the creature from invading attacks sent on you by undead
creatures. now you're ready to take on the bigbad ghost."
