Some of the best fishing in the area is right here. Before the water
level was raised to form the channel, this used to be the outlet stream
of Grand Lake, the beginning of the Colorado River. There are many
historic photos of his location. Pioneers caught thousands upon thousands
of trout here for patrons Grand Hotels that used to be near the lake here.
The fish were kept alive in underwater cages. This is the site of
Old Town Grand Lake. Fires, politics and rivalry brought and end to it,
long ago in the not-so-golden days.
