Fall 1997 enrollment figures at Grand Lake Elementary are as follows:
K=10, 1st=17, 2nd=8, 3rd=20, 4th=21, 5th=25. Total = 101.
1998 & 1999 enrollment figures will be posted soon.
Each family's presense or absense is directly felt.
We could certainly serve more 2nd graders and kindergardeners.
Statistical fluctuations have caused the enrollment to vary from 90 to 120
since the school was first opened in 1981. Each child gets special attention.
The school is generally in good condition with the exception needing some
roof repair. Students graduate from here and then attend East Grand Middle School
in Granby. Click on its name for a quick glimpse and to learn about the bond election.
See below for 1996-1997 Year Reflections from Mrs. Sidell, principal:
"Wow! What a busy year we had! September through May were packed with lots of activities, learning and educational fun! The PTA funded two enrichment programs: Pioneer Living Experience in the fall and Lights! Camera! Action! During the winter. These were two exceptional programs that the students and our other visitors enjoyed!
Santa and Comet paid us a visit in December; Santa's Secret Shop was open for a week; and we also had our annual Winter Program. The new year brought many meetings about our Multiage Philosophy and the decision was reached to revert to a traditional approach next year but incorporate some of the best aspects of Multiage when appropriate.
In addition to al the normal daily academic activities we do we ice-skated, skied, had the Middle Park High School Jazz Band and Swing Choir perform for us during the cold winter months and finally spring arrived. After the Spring Program and Spring Vacation, life at Grand Lake Elementary became even busier!
We had our annual Spaghetti Dinner/Silent Auction with the Shopping Cart Bonanza, The Spelling Bee, Kindergarten Round-up, The Spring Sing at Granby Elementary School and a Fifth Grade Orientation Session. May began with Law Day, the Health Fair, a visit to the EGMS Museum at Silver Creek, Standardized Tests, the 5th Grade Car Wash and their big trip to Dinosaur [Colorado], the second PTA Garage Sale/Flea Market, Intermediate Classes to the Butter Fly Museum [in Denver], 2 Field Days, Primary Students to the Zoo and Rocky Mountain National Park. Everybody went fishing at the Wold's and I did hear a rumor that Mr. Harrison ate a worm Like I said, "Wow!" What a year! After these moments of reflection, it's time to look to the future. Please have a safe and enjoyable summer. Remind your children to read every day. I hope to see all your children (except this year's fifth grade) back here on August 26. Once again have a safe summer."
