From a distance, Mount Baldy has a friendly rounded appearance.
For people who scale 14,000 foot high peaks, Baldy looks easy. Its peak
is just 2,500 feet (760 meters) higher than this scenic valley. However,
the ascent straight up its western face can be gruelling and dangerous.
Most other imagined routes are blocked by cliffs. The backside is completely
gouged out by glaciers. Climbing Baldy can give you a considerable respect
for the 12,000 foot peaks of Colorado.
